Job Description

As a Chef at Market District, you will be the culinary leader responsible for bringing our passion for premium ingredients, scratch cooking, and exceptional service to life in a vibrant supermarket environment. You will oversee daily kitchen operations for prepared foods and in-store culinary venues, ensuring that every dish reflects Market District’s standards of quality, creativity, and consistency. Working hands-on in the kitchen, you will plan and execute menus that highlight seasonal and specialty ingredients, develop and standardize recipes, and maintain visually appealing, ready-to-enjoy offerings for our guests. In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of cooks and culinary associates, training them in proper techniques, food safety, and efficient production practices. You will coordinate prep lists and production schedules, assign daily tasks, and support your team during peak periods to ensure that food is prepared on time and to specification. You will manage ordering and receiving of ingredients, monitor inventory levels, and control food and labor costs while minimizing waste and maintaining product freshness. You will be responsible for upholding strict standards of food safety and sanitation, ensuring compliance with all health department regulations and company policies. This includes monitoring proper temperatures, storage, labeling, allergen handling, and cleanliness of all kitchen areas and equipment. You will regularly inspect products for quality, adjust recipes and processes as needed, and address any issues that may impact taste, appearance, or safety. Because Market District is a destination for food enthusiasts, you will also engage with guests on the sales floor and at service counters. You will provide recommendations, explain ingredients and preparation methods, and support in-store culinary events, tastings, and demos that showcase our unique offerings. You will collaborate closely with Food & Beverage Operations leadership, category managers, and other departments to align your culinary programs with promotional plans, seasonal themes, and guest preferences.
