DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Legal Assistant 1, you will perform legal clerical work by reviewing, scheduling, preparing, and processing appeals from the Department of Human Services and the PA Department of Aging actions. You will analyze incoming appeals for compliance with procedural regulations, recommend dismissal of non‑compliant appeals, review correspondence, legal documents, and adjudications for inconsistencies. You will also support Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) and help ensure appeals are processed timely and in compliance with regulations. This role requires strong organizational skills to prioritize work and compute or adjust deadlines. In addition, you will prepare and maintain electronic and physical records for ALJs, process scheduling letters through the automated case management system, and act as a liaison between the ALJs, parties to hearings, legal counsel, and representatives.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 60‑minute lunch
Telework: Opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time based on eligibility, operational needs of the Bureau, and successful completion of the probationary and training periods. Work assignments will primarily take place in the office. To telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location in Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you may report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training
