Description MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.
New hires, re-hires, and internal hires will typically receive a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees in their same classification. Offers will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications and will thoughtfully consider internal pay equity for agency staff who perform similar duties and have similar qualifications. The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. The maximum salary range is reserved for candidates that far exceed the required and preferred qualifications for the role.

Position Overview: The Deputy Director, Educator Leadership will be part of the Talent Pathways division, which oversees the implementation of strategic staffing to maximize the impact of highly effective teachers, pre- and early-service teacher mentorship, and teacher pathways into leadership and administrative roles.
The Deputy Director will play a critical role in improving the preparation, retention, and effectiveness of principals and teacher leaders across Texas through the design and implementation of leadership preparation strategies. They will oversee the planning, implementation and execution of statewide teacher leadership and principal preparation initiatives including supporting districts with Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnerships Program (PREP) Allotment Mentorship implementation and to ensure candidates are prepared to meet the standards of Enhanced Teacher Incentive Allotment (ETIA) and Texas Principal Evaluation and Support Systems (T-PESS).
This position will require advanced strategic planning, project management, and stakeholder engagement with senior internal and external leaders.
The Deputy Director, Educator Leadership will manage up to one education specialist and will report to the Director of Teacher Leadership and Advancement within the Office of Educator and System Support.
Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.

1. Leader Preparation Strategy: Directs the strategic planning and implementation of leader preparation strategies. This includes a landscape scan of current strategies, strategic planning, performance management, and developing proposal of preparation upgrades aligned with statewide appraisal systems, Texas strategic compensation, Leadership and Instructional Foundations for Texas (LIFT), and Texas Strategic Leadership Academies (TSLA).
2. Teacher Leadership Pathways: Supports teacher leadership strategies and supports, focused on instructional leadership practices and alignment across roles and agency strategies. Oversees components of the development, implementation, and performance management of the PREP Mentorship Program, Texas Mentorship Training, and updates to the statewide field supervisor training delivered to educator preparation programs.
3. Technical Assistance: Develops and directs high-quality technical assistance to LEAs and preparation programs that are aligned to the leadership strategies, including standards and certification. This will include vendor collaboration and management, strategic collaboration with Education Service Centers, and facilitation of alignment and collaboration across vendors.
4. Cross Agency Coordination and Collaboration: Develops and partners with agency subject matter experts and vendors such as Texas Principal Evaluation and Support Systems (T-PESS), Strategic Compensation, Texas Strategic Leadership (TSL), Leadership and Instructional Foundations for Texas (LIFT), Pipeline to Leadership (P2L), Texas Mentorship Training (TMT) and Leadership Academies to create and continuously improve upon teacher leadership work and principal pathways.
5. Change Management and Stakeholder Engagement: Manages short and long-term change management and stakeholder engagement and communicates the state vision for high-quality teacher leadership training, mentorship strategies, and principal preparation. Serves as a resource to the State Board for Educator Certification for topics related to teacher leadership, mentorship, principal preparation and certification.
